A POH-GGZ works closely with the GPs in treating and supporting people with psychological and psychosocial complaints.
Sometimes you experience problems in your life that hinder your daily activities. Examples include:
Sadness, suspected depression
Anxiety and tension complaints
Loss and grief over a loved one
Relationship problems within the family or outside
Stress-related complaints due to changing life circumstances
InsomniaDuring a conversation with the GP, you can discuss together whether or not the Mental Health Practice Nurse (POH-GGZ) should be involved. The POH-GGZ can conduct sessions with you directly or refer you to another form of care, such as Social Work, a Primary Care Psychologist, or a (specialist) Mental Health institution. Usually, five to eight sessions are sufficient to enable you to continue on your own strength again. The sessions last 40 minutes.
The consultations are part of GP care included in the basic package of your health insurance, so you won’t be charged for these sessions. Should you be referred to a mental health institution or psychologist, there are often costs associated with this (‘eigen risico’). Please check with your insurance what these costs are. The POH-GGZ can provide you with further explanation regarding this.
